Some of the Questions We Receive Most Frequently.
Candles
Our wicks are 100% cotton, and burn clean.
12oz: 2 wicks. 21oz: 3 wicks. 34oz: 7 wicks.
Our candles consist of a paraffin and palm wax blend. As with almost all scented candles, our fragrance contains both natural and synthetic ingredients. We adhere to the standards set by the International Fragrance Association (IFRA). We also follow the National Candle Association (NCA) for safety standards. Validated scientific studies show that all major candle waxes produce virtually identical combustion byproducts. No peer-reviewed scientific study has ever proven that candle wax emissions are harmful to human health.
We do not test on animals, nor do we hire any 3rd parties to do animal testing for us. We do not intentionally use animal based products, but we cannot speak to the testing process of our raw ingredients.
In order to create candles that are safer for those with allergies, we use a mixture of natural and synthetic ingredients. All of our candles adhere to the International Fragrance Association’s standards.
We do not intentionally add any animal-derived products in our candles. We are not certified as a vegan facility.
Our candles are free of lead and zinc.
Phthalates are a broad group of chemicals. We do not use any of the potentially hazardous phthalates regulated by the CPSC.
All of the glass used by Sand + Fog has passed rigorous 3rd party safety testing. Place on temperature safe surface away from other heat sources. To avoid glass cracking, do not burn the last 1/4” of wax in jar. Container will be hot when candle is lit. Do not expose candle to extreme temperatures.
The safety of scented candles is backed by decades of research which confirms safe use. Additionally, Sand + Fog Candles required extensive testing on our candles.
All of our products are safe when used as directed. Specific medical questions or concerns you may have should be addressed to your medical provider.
Although millions of people regularly use scented candles without any negative effects, it is always possible that a particular fragrance may trigger a negative reaction in sensitive individuals. Those with known sensitivities to specific fragrances may want to avoid candles of those scents. In addition, consumers should remember to burn all candles in a well-ventilated area.
Fragrances
Top notes are the most noticeable components in a blend. They often make up the initial impression of a fragrance.
Middle notes bring the top and base notes together. They are often referred to as the body of a scent. It’s the middle notes that are at the heart of a fragrance.
The base notes make up the longest lasting materials and create the final impression of a fragrance.
Fragrance families can be broken down into several main categories: floral, fresh & clean, fruity & vine sweet & spicy, warm & woody.
Floral Fragrances provide the comforting aroma of freshly picked blossoms. Some staples in this category include rose, jasmine and lavender.
Fresh & Clean Fragrances capture the airy essence of a breeze. Can be aldehydic or metallic in nature, and are typically used to describe water or clean laundry. Herbal fragrances provide the impression of freshly crushed foliage and capture the essence of leaves, grasses and herbs.
Fruit & Vine Fragrances can incorporate a broad range of familiar notes including juicy berries, tart citrus, tropical fruits and classic notes like apple, grape or pear…the possibilities here are endless.
Sweet & Spicy Fragrances are sweet, vanilla baked, nutty and edible types. They may also contain a sophisticated blend of spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove.
Warm and Woody Fragrances employ facets such as cedar, oak, pine and sandalwood. Oriental warmth can also refer to animalic, amber and musk notes.
The fragrance development typically takes anywhere between 24-36 months. During this time, fragrances are paneled among a select group of qualified consumers, tested for product stability, and reviewed for safety and compliance.
